Compact, Dual-Output PSM-202A 18 Watt Switcher Features Integral AC Input Receptacle for Simplified Installation,
Reduced Radiated Noise
Fremont, California, Oct. 22, 1999 -- Phihong USA's new PSM-202A dual output 18 W switching power supply is specifically designed for
easy installation into small networking, peripheral, terminal and microcomputer equipment. The PSM-202A includes an an integral IEC input receptacle, eliminating
that typical system receptacle-to-power supply cabling which often creates EMI (Electro-magnetic Interference).
The IEC receptacle provides easy power supply bulkhead mounting and eliminates the purchase cost and installation of a separate receptacle and associated cabling.
The PSM-202A in includes a 4" ground wire terminated with a ring lug connector for convenient chassis safety ground connection.
This configuration also reduces EMI radiation. In most OEM systems, a power cable
connects an IEC receptacle to the power supply. The cable, which carries some high frequency current induced by the switching power supply in addition to the low
frequency 50 Hz or 60 Hz line current, can radiate electrical noise and interfere with nearby sensitive electronic equipment. Eliminating the interconnect cable lowers EMI
radiation and simplifies the regulatory agency EMI approval process required in virtually all countries. The PSM-202A internal and filter meets the stringent CISPR 22
B and FCC limit B conducted noise limits.
"The PSM-202A delivers what our customers have asked for: a compact common
easy-to-integrate design with IEC receptacle, dual 5V/3.3V outputs and CIPR22B filter for under $20 in low (100s) quantities. Few power supplies deliver such value today,"
explained Alan Richards, Vice President of Phihong USA in Fremont, California. "The integrated design also lowers total cost of ownership. The OEM's cost to procure,
stock and install components is much higher than ours, and therefore they want us to include as many features as possible in the power supply subsystem. The PSM-202A
delivers on that wish."
The 18 watt switcher is UL, CSA and TUV safety approved and measures just 2" x 4
.25". In spite of the small size, the power supply is capable of 15mS holdup time at full load, allowing uninterrupted operation during momentary power outages. It is also
protected from numerous faults including outputs shorts and overvoltage.
The PSM-202A incorporates 85 to 265 vac universal input, allowing it to operate from
any worldwide line voltage. It provides dual outputs of 3.3V at 4A and 5.0V at 1A. pricing is $19.50/100 and it is available off-the-shelf.
