Tiny 5 Watt PSA-05R Power Adapter with Replaceable Power Plugs is Smaller than a Business Card and Weighs Less than a Hand-held Calculator
 Fremont, California, May 7, 2001 -- Phihong USA's newest 5 watt R series adapter with replaceable power plugs is smaller than a business card and weighs
only 4 oz., less than a typical hand-held calculator. The PSA-05R single output power supply series is an excellent mate for small, lightweight and portable electronic
products, such as PDAs, digital cameras, MPEG players, and all personal electronic devices.
The PSA-05R features universal input, allowing it to operate for any worldwide
line voltage from 90 to 264 Vac. Various models provide a single output ranging from 3.3V to 12V.
The double-insulated adapter is safety approved to UL1950 and meets this CE (LVD and EMC) requirements. CSA 22.2 NA950 and TUV EN60950 are in
process. The unit meets FCC class B and EN55022B conducted noise limits, and leakage current is under 250uA.
Despite the small size, the power supply is capable of 10mS holdup time at
full load, allowing uninterrupted operation during momentary power outages. It is protected from numerous faults inducing output shorts and overvoltage and,
unlike many switching power supplies, requires no minimum load.
"This one of the smallest switching adapters on the market in terms of output
power, size and weight. It also features replaceable power plugs that have become very popular," said Alan Richards, VP of marketing for Phihong USA
in Fremont. "The '5R is a good match for very low power systems that, up to now, have been forced to use relatively large and heavy wall plug-ins. It is almost in a class of its own."
Replaceable-plug power supply adapters have become increasingly popular among OEMs that sell products worldwide. The plugs are small, light,
relatively inexpensive, and allow the power supply to connect to virtually every power outlet in the world. Desktop power supply adapters with standard IEC
connectors require up to eight power cords for full worldwide coverage. Each power cord can cost the same as all four Phihong replaceable power plugs.
Linear power supply adapters, lacking universal input, require different power units for worldwide use. Wall plug-in switching adapters can use commercial
"luggage store" travel plug converters, which much larger than the Phihong plugs.
The PSA-05R measures just 2.8" x 1.8" x 1.4". It includes a 70-inch cable
with center-positive 2.1mm barrel connector. Pricing is $13.30/100 and the product is available off-the-shelf from franchised distributors.
