FREMONT, Calif. (December 12, 2005) — Phihong USA, the global leader in low-cost power supplies, has developed a one-port midspan
for high-power devices that are capable of powering 802.11N access points. Typical applications for the 30W midspan include wireless/Wi-Max network access points, security cameras and IP telephones with
streaming video.
“Along with the new standard, customers are looking for equipment that is interoperable across multiple vendor platforms,” said
Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. “Our 30W one-port midspan provides Power-over-Ethernet technology that does just that.”
Phihong is a member of the new IEEE 802.3at task force, which was formed to increase the power levels distributed via Ethernet to at least
45W. When implemented as a standard, the PoEPlus initiative will more than double the wattage available to powered devices.
The 30W midspan features diagnostic LEDs and is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3af standard in detection, disconnect and voltage
control. The device is also Gigabit-compatible.
DC output voltage for the one-port midspan is 56V with accurate overload detection to 0.55A. The outputs are equipped with short circuit
and overload protection, and the output can be shorted permanently without damage. AC input voltage range is 90VAC to 264VAC, with voltage rating from 100VAC to 240VAC and AC input frequency from 47Hz to 63HZ.
Power-over-Ethernet allows both power and data to be carried over a single Ethernet cable, enabling a device to operate entirely from the power
it receives through the data cable. This eliminates the need for additional wall outlets, so phones can be moved around offices without costly and time-consuming rewiring. Phihong’s new 30W one port
device has been tested for compatibility and broadband data handling capability by UNH IOL.
Safety approvals for the 30W one-port midspan include cUL/UL, TUV and CE. Phihong is an expert at international safety agency approvals
and can offer almost any international safety or EMC compliance standard.
Typical pricing for Phihong’s 30W one-port midspan is $25 each in OEM quantities. Parts are available immediately.
Phihong is one of the leading suppliers of power solutions to networking OEMs, including power supplies, adapters and Power-over-Ethernet
