Leading accessories provider delivers “green power” immediately…
Phihong Provides Full Compliance with ECOC Initiative Two Years Ahead of 2005 Deadline
Fremont, CA (November 1, 2002) — Phihong, the global leader in electronic
accessories provides OEMs of portable electronic equipment early compliance with the European Commission Code of Conduct on Efficiency of External Power
Supplies. Two models of the R-Series power adapter have already been converted and testing has confirmed that the technology is transferable to all other Phihong adapter products.
“We are very proud to contribute so significantly to the efforts in reducing air
pollution and energy waste by being the first company to offer fully compliant products,” said Keith Hopwood, VP of marketing for Phihong. “Billions of dollars in
global energy costs are lost annually to products that consumers believe to be turned off. These ‘energy vampires’ can be slain and energy waste can be
drastically reduced through efficient power supply design.”
According to the European Commission, it is estimated that standby power accounts for approximately 10% of the electricity consumed in homes and offices in
the EU member States. Studies have indicated that annual standby and no-load energy losses total more than 8 TWh in Europe with an annual total contribution to CO2 emissions of 68 million tons. This is the equivalent of the annual emissions of
24 million European-type cars. Reductions of 5 TWh of energy losses annually are projected under the Code of Conduct with estimated annual savings in energy costs of 500M Euro by 2010.
Under the Code of Conduct, signatories pledged to reduce no-load power consumption of their manufactured devices in three phases between January 1, 2001
and January 1, 2005. As of January 1, 2003, products with a rated input power of ? 0.3W and < 15W must reduce consumption to 0.75W. Phihong products deliver
compliance at the 2005 Phase Three level of 0.30W.
