The CEC's mandatory efficiency requirements for the use of external power supplies in consumer audio, video equipment, and appliances sold
in California went into effect in December of 2004. With continual updates to the regulations, the next taking effect on January 1, 2007, these standards mandate minimum efficiency levels in
active and no-load modes and maximum standby requirements.
